If you’ve ever wondered what an experience at an artisanal European charcuterie is, you may want to head to Cheese Culture on Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale. Staying true to its quirky and pun-fueled motto, “It’s a Whey of Life,” The Cheese Culture brings to South Florida a wide array of both domestic and imported cheeses, meats, and wines. The menu seems to have options that cater to everyone, whether you want a cheese board, a sandwich, or a salad. Everything is of high quality and fresh, making for a combination of simple ingredients that ALWAYS seems to be greater than the sum of its parts.
Although the sandwiches are scrumptious and are made up of crusty and beautiful bread and fillings, I go to Cheese Culture for a purely unadulterated cheese and wine experience. The cheese boards are entirely customizable affairs that allow you to choose exactly what it is that you want. Being a lover of goat cheese, I have found the selection to be more than adequate and actually some of the best that you can find in South Florida. For those that are familiar with The Cheese Course, think of Cheese Culture as a local (and more thorough) alternative to the high-quality chain. For a complete Cheese Culture experience, I would recommend getting a cheese plate composed of two options; get one hard cheese and one soft cheese. Cheese boards include accompaniments such as fresh fruit, nuts honey and dried fruit selected to compliment the cheeses on your plate. Just as the cheese, the accompaniments are of high quality, bringing the cheese board full circle. The honey offered actually comes from local farmers and is served complete with a piece of honeycomb and all, which really impressed me.
The servers are expertly trained, and you can tell that they are passionate about their craft. They have knowledge that helps guide you through your cheese experience. If you need recommendations on what to drink with your cheese, they can guide you in a manner that will make you want to become a regular. Not only will they give you suggestions based on your cheese, they will also teach you how to combine the two items to create optimal flavor. They are friendly and inviting, giving you an experience that is hard to find elsewhere in the city. I left fully impressed with Cheese Culture and I recommend it without a doubt, whether it be to dine in or to just buy some cheese and wine.
